TJ Butler, Chief Software Architect at Mesh Systems, will be a featured speaker at the IoT Evolution Conference on January 25-28, 2016. Butler’s session topic “Going from ‘Real Cool’ to ‘Real World” will discuss how companies can take a proof of concept that works seamlessly in a controlled lab situation and perfecting it for use in the uncontrolled real world.
Commercializing that lab demo is not an easy task. Smart IoT system architects must balance the feature wish list with things like workflow, and logistics and deployment costs so that the product is scalable and, most importantly, revenue ready.
In anticipation of his topic, Butler was interviewed by IoT Evolution editor, Ken Briodagh, about important elements for good IoT Smart system design. “I can't stress enough how important basic connectivity and reliability is. Clearly, security is a core and required component but, quite frankly, even security doesn't matter if basic connectivity isn't working first,” Butler states. “The media seemed to jump directly from Big Data analytics hype to IoT Analytics hype and is focused on predictive maintenance, real-time events and machine learning…understandably so. The potential value propositions are staggering. However, if the reliability, accuracy and quality of data isn't solid, the analytics don't matter. The foundation of good data science is, simply put, good data.”
Butler will also present “Does the Maker Movement Make Product?” panel discussion how Makers can take their clever hacks and turn them into products.
